A heteropolyoxomolybdenum(VI)iron(III) cation. Synthesis and crystal structure of [(LFeIII)3MoVI4O14(µ-OMe)3](ClO4)2(L =N,N′,N″-trimethyl-1,4,7-triazacyclononane)

Abstract

From a mixture consisting of Fe(ClO4)2·6H2O, the cyclic amine N,N′,N″-trimethyl-1,4,7-triazacyclononane, glacial acetic acid, acetic anhydride, and (NH4)2[MoO4]·4H2O in methanol, red-orange crystals of [(LFe)3Mo4O14–(µ-OMe)3](ClO4)2 precipitated upon exposure of the solution to air; characterization by X-ray crystallography showed the presence of discrete heteropolyoxomolybdenum(VI)iron(III) dications and perchlorate anions.
