Preparation of [{Yb(C5Me5)2}2{Co3(C5H4R)23-CO)4}], R = H, Me, SiMe3; an example of a 47-electron transition metal fragment containing a cobalt atom with hexagonal planar co-ordination

Abstract

The electron-transfer reaction of Yb(C5Me5)2(OEt2) and Co(C5H4R)(CO)2, R = H, Me, SiMe3, yields the odd-electron-numbered complex, [{Yb(C5Me5)2}2{Co3(C5H4R)23-CO)4}], with a Co3C4O4 unit that contains a cobalt atom with hexagonal planar co-ordination.
