Addition of diphenyldiazomethane to hexa-alkoxydimolybdenum(M[triple bond, length as m-dash]M) compounds: characterization of Mo2(OPri)6(N2CPh2)2(pyridine) by X-ray crystallography

Abstract

Addition of diphenyldiazomethane (2 equiv.) to hexane solutions of Mo2(OR)6, where R = isopropyl or neopentyl, in the presence of pyridine (py) leads to the formation of the cyrstalline compounds Mo2(OR)6(N2CPh2)2(py), which are shown to contain mixed valence (Mo-Mo)10+ units.
