A new synthesis and the X-ray crystal structure of bis(trimethylbenzylammonium) tri-µ-carbonyl-dodecacarbonyl-octahedro-hexairidate(2–)

Abstract

The [Ir6(CO)15]2– dianion, obtained by a two-step carbonylative reduction of K2IrCl6 in 2-methoxyethanol containing 10% of water, has been shown by X-ray diffraction to contain an octahedral Ir6 cluster with twelve terminal and three symmetrical edge-bridging carbonyl groups.
