New synthesis of (±)-meroquinene aldehyde and its epimer from (±)-norcamphor

Abstract

A new route converting (±)-norcamphor into ±-meroquinene aldehyde (1), a key intermediate in the synthesis of the cinchona alkaloids, and its epimer, (±)-epimeroquinene aldehyde (2), has been developed.
