Synthesis of 1-[2-(3-hydroxy-4-methoxyphenyl)ethyl]-3a,4-dihydro-1H-indole-2(3H),6(5H)-dione: a potential intermediate for the preparation of erythrinan alkaloids

Abstract

A new synthetic route to erythrinan alkaloids was developed via the title compound (III) as the key intermediate from the enol methyl derivative (II) which was obtained by the Birch reduction of the benzyl amide (I).
