Ring opening of cyclobutenedione derivatives with zerovalent platinum

Abstract

trans-Stilbenebis(triphenylphosphine)platinum(0) and other platinum(0) compounds ring open cyclobutenedione derivatives via metal-olefin intermediates to give platinacyclopentenedione complexes; only olefin complexes are formed with tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)-palladium(0) except with benzocyclobutenedione which undergoes ring-opening.
