Development of a novel methodology in the determination of magnesium from chlorophyll a by atomic absorption spectrometry using chemometric experimental design

Abstract

The amount of Mg from chlorophyll a was determined by atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) with a new procedure involving acetone–water mixtures which was compared with an acid digestion procedure using a composite central design. The amount of chlorophyll a was determined using electronic absorption spectrometry and calibrated to AAS. The results demonstrated that there are no significant differences between the two procedures and that the sample matrix does not affect the determination of the analyte. The results from the two-factor design were compared with results using the standard additions method, and were found to be slightly better in this example.
