Derivative spectrophotometric determination of clemastine fumarate in pharmaceutical preparations

Abstract

A simple and rapid ultraviolet spectrophotometric assay procedure is described for the determination of clemastine fumarate. The proposed method is based on direct measurement of the second-derivative spectra of samples obtained by dilution with methanol-hydrochloric acid solution. The method has been successfully applied to the determination of this drug in tablets, syrup and ampoules. The results were in good agreement with the official high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method.
