Stepwise coordination of {Cu(C5Me5)} with a tri-silylated Ge9 cluster

Abstract

A stepwise reaction between [Ge₉Hyp₃]⁻ and CuI/K(C₅Me₅) yielded the {Ge₉Hyp₃} hybridized double-decker sandwich cluster [{Cu(C₅Me₅)}₂(η³:η³-Ge₉Hyp₃)]^– (2) via [Cu(C₅Me₅)(η³-Ge₉Hyp₃)]⁻ (1) as an intermediate. The controllable coordination of {Cu(C₅Me₅)} on the tri-silylated Ge₉ cluster in this work contributes to the rational design and synthesis, and eventually the application of silylated Ge₉ based catalysts.
