A hair-thin fiber aqueous rechargeable Zn-ion battery with high energy density

Abstract

This work presents a hair-thin fiber aqueous rechargeable Zn-ion battery, with a record-thin diameter of <0.1 mm and a high energy density of >101 mWh cm−3, obtained by designing an axial alternating structure to enable a different charge-transport mechanism in the axial direction instead of the traditional perpendicular direction. The hair-thin battery can be woven into silk-like thin fabrics or integrated into a guidewire as a micro-implantable power source for vascular recanalization surgery, demonstrating its potential for powering wearables and implantable electronics.
