On-surface synthesis of oxygen-doped analogues of higher acenes

Abstract

We report the on-surface synthesis of furanoacenes on Au(111). Based on the combination of bond-resolved scanning tunneling microscopy (BR-STM), scanning tunneling spectroscopy (STS) and density functional theory (DFT) calculations, two isomers are identified and their self-assembly, as well as their structural and electronic properties, are analyzed in detail.
