Solvent-free synthesis of organic electrodes for green sustainable energy storage

Abstract

Organic electrodes are the key candidates for environment-friendly and sustainable energy storage owing to their abundant resources, robust structural design and high theoretical specific capacity in the future. So far, the vast majority of organic materials applied in the area of energy storage have been prepared using a solvent method. Compared with solvent methods, solvent-free methods have the advantages of non-toxicity, environment-friendliness, low cost, simple process and scalability. However, few researchers have summarized organic electrode materials synthesized using a solvent-free method. In view of this, this paper reviews the advantages, main types and synthesis mechanisms of organic electrode materials using solvent-free methods and introduces the research progress of their application in various energy storage devices. Finally, we provide an overview of the issues that need to be addressed in the solvent-free synthesis of organic electrode materials for achieving practical applications. These in-depth discussions will provide researchers with new perspectives in the solvent-free synthesis of organic electrode materials.
