Kinetics of the binodal decomposition of the metastable Ni0.5Ru0.5 solid solution

Abstract

For the first time, the kinetics of decomposition of a metastable Ni0.50Ru0.50 solid solution was studied under isothermal conditions using in situ powder XRD. It has been shown that the main phase transformations occur in the temperature range of 500–600 °C according to a binodal mechanism, which is confirmed by HRTEM data. The resulting kinetic curves were approximated by a second-order reaction model and the activation energy of this process was calculated: 80 kJ mol−1. Additional calorimetric studies confirmed the obtained value.
