Tailorable and photochromic multifunctional methyl viologen/cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) films

Abstract

Photochromic methyl viologen/cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) films were prepared and investigated. They show vibrant color on exposure to UV light and, using air as an oxidant, the films could be erased and rewritten over multiple cycles. These films are attractive for applications in photo-patterning, encryption, and UV light sensing.
