Photosalient effect and photodimerization of mono- and dicationic organic salts incorporated in 4-styrylpyridine

Abstract

The photoresponsive behavior of both mono- and dicationic bromide salts incorporated with 4-styrylpyridine was investigated. Upon exposure to UV light, the crystals showed dynamic changes, forming new organic salts by the [2 + 2] photodimerization process, which was elucidated by single crystal X-ray analysis and 1H NMR spectroscopy.
