Metal halide perovskite single crystal growth and application for X-ray detectors

Abstract

Metal halide perovskites (MHPs) are promising candidates for optoelectronic devices due to their high carrier mobility, long carrier lifetime, low trap density and low cost. Perovskite single crystals exhibit superior optoelectronic performances in comparison to their poly-crystalline film counterparts. In this review, insights into the mechanism of perovskite single crystal growth are provided, detailing the fundamental processes involved in the nucleation and crystal growth model, together with traditional bulk synthetic routes and characterization techniques for optoelectronic properties. Furthermore, we present recent developments of halide perovskites for X-ray detection, including the typical figures of merit that describe radiation detector performance as well as the advantages of perovskite single crystals for X-ray detection. Lastly, the current challenges and perspectives are discussed to further optimize the synthesis of perovskite single crystals and boost the performance of perovskite single crystal detectors. This review aims to guide further developments of perovskite single crystal synthesis for optoelectronic applications.
