A multifunctional fluorescent platform based on polyoxometalate-functionalized HOFs for 5-hydroxymethylfurfural, 2-furaldehyde and ascorbic acid sensing, logic computing and anti-counterfeiting

Abstract

Hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) as an emerging class of tunable functional materials have shown enormous potential for functional modification and multiple applications. Therefore, developing a feasible method to prepare functionalized HOFs and exploring their multifunctional applications are vital. Herein, a novel composite material, EuW10/HOF-GS-10 (1), was generated by ion exchange between polyoxometalate (POM, EuW10) and HOF-GS-10. This POM-functionalized HOF is competent as a multifunctional platform for sensing, logic computing and anti-counterfeiting. The sensing platform based on dual-emitting 1 exhibits different fluorescence responses with great selectivity and high sensitivity toward common food components 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF), 2-furaldehyde (2-FA) and ascorbic acid (AA) with different sensing mechanisms. The LOD of 1 toward them can reach 1.116, 1.448 and 8.837 μM, respectively. On the other hand, in the light of the fluorescence responses and variable colors of materials, the integration of logic operations and information anti-counterfeiting provides a promising strategy to improve the information processing ability and expand the information anti-counterfeitingability. This work exhibits the encouraging and promising applications of fluorescent POM-functionalized HOFs in food component sensing and combination of logic computing and information anti-counterfeiting for the first time and will widen the possibility of the design of functionalized HOFs as a multifunctional optical platform.
