Photoinduced catalyst-free borylation of alkenyl triflates with Lewis base complexes of boranes

Abstract

Herein, a direct radical borylation of alkenyl triflates with Lewis base-ligated boranes (LB-BH3) was accomplished, affording a series of α-boryl carbonyl compounds. This process was triggered by the photoinduced homolytic cleavage of alkenyl triflates to generate the CF3 radical as a HAT species, thus obviating the need for an external radical initiator or a photocatalyst.
