Rational design and progress of molybdenum-oxo clusters

Abstract

Polyoxometalates (POMs) are a kind of metal oxides with unique structures and properties at the molecular level, in which polyoxomolybdates are one of the most representative family members. Due to the dynamic combinatorial library of Mo-based building blocks, chemists have employed various synthetic methods and raw materials to construct diverse intriguing complex architectures. In this review, the multiple synthetic methods, the structural evolution of molybdenum clusters and potential application prospects are summarized and discussed. Furthermore, some outlooks are given on the development and evolution of molybdenum clusters. We hope that our personal perspectives can provide valuable advice for the future development of molybdenum clusters.
