An amino functionalized zirconium metal organic framework as a catalyst for oxidative desulfurization

Abstract

An amino group (–NH2) functionalized catalyst (UiO-66-NH2) with a double site and a large surface area was successfully synthesized. The morphology and crystal structure of the material did not change after introducing –NH2. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS)confirmed the presence of –NH2. After screening the technological conditions, the desulfurization rate of UiO-66-NH2 reached 100%, the oxygen–sulfur ratio value (O/S = 4) was much lower than that reported in previous research studies (O/S = 12 and 13), the excellent desulfurization performance was due to the synergistic effect between –NH2 and Zr(IV) acidic sites on UiO-66. After recycling 7 times, the catalytic activity of UiO-66-NH2 remained high; nevertheless, the catalyst became inactive due to agglomeration.
