Acetic acid formation from methane and carbon dioxide via non-thermal plasma reactions towards an effective carbon fixation

Abstract

While direct CH3COOH formation from CH4 and CO2 in a non-equilibrium condition is an ideal process, a dielectric-barrier discharge plasma reaction in the presence of CO2 and isotopic CH4 (13CH4) revealed that the primly produced CH3COOH can comprise both CH4-derived carbons (i.e., no CO2-derived carbon), indicating the importance of a particular CO2 activation control in non-thermal plasma for an effective carbon fixation.
