The janus in monodispersed catalysts: synergetic interactions

Abstract

Taking advantage of their remarkable performances, monodispersed catalysts have always been a hot spot in heterogeneous catalytic reactions. Very recently, more and more researchers have reported that with the distance of adjacent active centers getting shorter, the performance of the monodispersed catalyst is improved, which is ascribed to the synergy of adjacent active centers. Importantly, after reviewing the recent studies regarding the synergy, we underscore that this effect occurs not only in neighbouring monodispersed atoms but also between atoms and clusters, and even between groups and layers. The synergistic effect is confirmed to be the key impact in tuning the electronic structure, thus promoting the intrinsic performance of the monodispersed catalyst, which is promising to attract more attention in future studies.
