Recent insight into functional crystalline porous frameworks for cancer photodynamic therapy
Abstract
As a new emerging class of highly crystalline advanced porous materials, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have gained significant attention for photodynamic therapy (PDT) due to their structural regularity, inherent porosity, extensive functionality, design flexibility, and good biocompatibility. In this review, we summarize and illustrate the recent developments of MOF- and COF-based nanomedicines for PDT and its combined antitumor treatments. Furthermore, major challenges and future development prospects in this field are also discussed.
