Pillararene-based conjugated porous polymers

Abstract

The synthesis and application of promising polymeric materials–pillararene-based conjugated porous polymers–are discussed and summarized in this review. Two types of topological pillararene-based conjugated porous polymers were prepared including 1D linear and crosslinked ones. Different synthesis strategies and methods were employed including the formation of bulky heterocyclic moieties, Pd-catalyzed coupling reaction, Friedel–Crafts reaction, and substitution and condensation reactions. Additionally, the integration of pillararene subunits and COF into hybrid materials by noncovalent interactions was also described. By taking advantage of large BET surface areas, flexible porous polymers, and rigid chemical structures of pillararenes as well as their electron-rich cavities, pillararene-based conjugated porous polymers have various attractive applications in molecular recognition, sensors, removal of pollutants, gas adsorption, organic electrode materials, and heterogeneous catalysis.
