Facile preparation of polycarbonates from bio-based eugenol and 2-methoxy-4-vinylphenol

Abstract

Two α,ω-diene monomers containing a carbonate structure derived from eugenol and 2-methoxy-4-vinylphenol were successfully synthesized in high yields of 94% and 78%, respectively. With these dienes in hand, a series of poly(thioether carbonates) and unsaturated aromatic–aliphatic polycarbonates with moderate molecular weights (Mn) ranging from 17 100 to 24 400 g mol−1 and tunable thermo-properties were prepared via a thiol–ene click reaction and step growth acyclic-diene-metathesis, respectively.
