Stabilizing photo-sensitive colchicine through rebalancing electron distribution of the reactive tropolone ring

Abstract

Colchicine is light-sensitive and undergoes electrocyclic reaction upon exposure to light. In this study, the photostability of colchicine was found to be significantly improved via rebalancing the electron density of the tropolone ring system after solid form changes. This work may provide a new approach for resolving photo-sensitive challenges during drug development.
