IL-oxidizer/IL-fuel combinations as greener hypergols

Abstract

In this proof of concept study, the Brønsted acidic ionic liquids with NO3 and [B6H7]-based anions ignited spontaneously upon contact, suggesting a possible route to replace the combinations of a HNO3 (or N2O4) oxidizer and hydrazine-based fuel as bipropellants.
