Semi Solid State Aluminum - Air Battery with the Electrolyte Composed of Aluminium Chloride Hydroxide with Various types of Hydrophobic Additives

Abstract

All solid state Al air battery with solid electrolyte prepared by mixing AlCl3·6H2O and various type of hydrophobic additives were prepared and tested. All of prepared Al air battery exhibited higher current 48 hours after battery preparation. This could be suggested due to battery resistance decrease because AlCl3·6H2O was melted and penetrated into air cathode due to its hygroscopic property. Among the battery we tested, when commercial vaseline and butyl methyl imidazolium hexafluorophosphate were mixed with AlCl3·6H2O and used as the solid electrolyte, prepared Al air battery exhibited stable high current and electrochemical property.
