The first X-ray structure of a silver–nucleotide complex: interaction of ion Ag(i) with cytidine-5′-monophosphate

Abstract

Herein we report the first X-ray solid state characterization of a Ag(I) complex with cytidine-5′-monophosphate (HCMP) of the formula Ag(HCMP)·H2O. The coordination of Ag(I) to HCMP is via both the N3 and O2 atoms of two cytosine moieties and the phosphate group. The short Ag(I)–Ag(I) distances (2.99 Å) suggest an interesting argentophilic attraction as a stabilization source of the final solid state structure along with ancillary O⋯Ag, H-bonding and π⋯π interactions that have been rationalized using DFT calculations.
