ZnO/poly(N-vinylcarbazole) coaxial nanocables for white-light emissions

Abstract

A new type of light emitting nanorod that emits white light is reported. In this study, we demonstrate an inorganic–organic coaxial nanocable fabricated through facile-coating of organic molecules on an inorganic nanorod. The coaxial nanocable consists of a unique core (ZnO nanorod) and a shell (poly(N-vinylcarbazole) PVK). Our experimental results revealed that the combined contributions from the ZnO nanorod and PVK molecule resulted in white-light emissions. The spectrum of the white-light emissions covered a wide range of the visible region and the Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage coordinates of the emitted light were (0.365, 0.385). ZnO/PVK nanocables have potential applications in lighting nanodevices and in the study platform of exciton–carrier interactions.
