Preparation and performance of a novel complex material Eu-modified reduced graphene oxide

Abstract

This paper presents the fabrication and characterization of europium-modified graphene oxide (Eu–GO). We investigated its fluorescence quenching effect on Rhodamine-B (RB) and especially, its ability to improve the fluorescence properties of RB. It is found that Eu–GO has a strong effect on fluorescence quenching but is a little weaker than GO. Moreover, bright and diverse fluorescence emissions of yellow, orange and green were obtained by utilizing Eu–GO to modify RB in sunlight. Interestingly, the intensities of the obtained fluorescence emissions do not decline but rise after the interaction. These interesting and meaningful achievements confirm its potential applications in biosensors as well as the variation and enhancement of fluorescence.
