Thermal intumescent behavior of a gel containing silica

Abstract

A transparent gel containing silica as a fire proof interlayer has been used to impart thermal insulation to laminated glazing. A thermal intumescent mechanism of the gel at high temperature has been proposed to explain the greatly enhanced fire resistance of the glazing sample.
