A unique coordination polymer with tetranuclear nickel(ii) units linked by macrocyclic ligands

Abstract

A novel coordination polymer, {[Ni4L(OAc)2](ClO4)2}, has been acquired, where macrocycle H4L is the [2 + 2] condensation product of 2,6-diformyl-4-methylphenol and bis(3-aminopropyl) amino]isopropoxide. X-ray diffraction studies reveal that it is composed of [Ni4O6] units linked by the macrocyclic ligands, forming a unique coordination polymer chain with equal distance tetranuclear nickel(II) arrangement. The value of magnetic coupling between the two nickel(II) ions are −61(1) cm−1 across the phenoxide bridge and 20(6) cm−1 across the acetate bridge, respectively.
