CoMoS/K catalysts for higher alcohol synthesis from syngas prepared by mechano-chemical activation of molybdenite

Abstract

CoMoSx/K catalysts used for the synthesis of higher alcohols from syngas are usually prepared using costly ammonium tetrathiomolybdate. In an attempt to identify inexpensive and more readily available molybdenum precursors with improved performance, catalysts were prepared starting from crystalline MoS2 activated by ball-milling. This communication reports the catalytic performance of these catalysts in the hydrogenation of CO for the synthesis of higher alcohols along with catalyst characterization results.
