Improving the performance of a LiFePO4 cathode based on electrochemically cleaved graphite oxides with high hydrophilicity and good conductivity

Abstract

A carbon coated LiFePO4 (LFP) composite based on electrochemically cleaved graphite oxides (ECGO) for a lithium-ion battery cathode material with excellent electrochemical properties and high tap density has been prepared by an in situ solvothermal approach combined with a cold-press calcination process, in which the ECGO with high hydrophilicity and good conductivity is used as a carbon-based material. The co-modification of LFP with a carbon coating and ECGO can produce an effective three-dimensional (3D) conducting network, which significantly improves the electronic conductivity of the C/LFP/ECGO composite. This composite exhibits a high reversible discharge capacity of 166 mA h gāˆ’1 at 0.1 C and 115 mA h gāˆ’1 at 10 C, as well as an excellent cycling stability with capacity retention ratios of 99.35% and 97.66% after 100 cycles at 1 C and 10 C, respectively.
