Abstract
The prospects of compressible Self-Consistent Field (SCF) theory schemes for describing structures in amphiphilic membranes are illustrated by considering the thermodynamic stability of hourglass-shaped, hydrophobic connections (stalks) between apposed bilayers. The membranes are represented by a coarse-grained,
