Ferromagnetic hematite@graphene nanocomposites for removal of rhodamine B dye molecules from water

Abstract

In this communication, we report for the first time the synthesis and magnetic properties of hematite (α-Fe2O3) nanocubes anchored on polymer PVP-modified rGO nanosheet (termed HPG) nanocomposites prepared from ferric ions (Fe3+). The HPG exhibited weak ferromagnetic properties with an obviously suppressed Morin temperature of 189 K, much lower than that of hematite nanocubes (257 K), which is attributed to the decrease of the particle size and the coexistence of graphene in the HPG system. Also HPG presents excellent adsorption performance for rhodamine B (RhB) dye molecules.
