First magnets based on thiocyanato-bridges

Abstract

2-D NCS-bridged {3d–4d} molecule-based magnets, formed by reaction of [MoIII(NCS)6]3− with either NiII or CoII complexes, have been found to exhibit magnetic ordering with TC = 39 K for {Co3Mo2} while {Ni3Mo2} has a non-magnetic ground state as a result of exact compensation by the individual sub-lattices.
