New luminescent complexes for recognition and reversible sensing small molecules

Abstract

A manganese and three isomorphous lanthanide complexes, [Mn(1,10-phen)(L)(H2O)] (1) and {[Ln(1,10-phen)2(H2O)2] [Ln(1,10-phen)(H2O)3](L)3}·2.5H2O (Ln = Pr (2), Nd (3), La (4); L = 4,4′-bis(2-sulfonatostyryl)biphenyl) are reported. The manganese solid can release the coordinated water to form a dehydrated phase, which offers recognition and reversible sensing of small molecules.
