Preparation of one dimensional group 14 metal sulfides: different roles of metal–amino complexes

Abstract

Two organic–inorganic hybrid one dimensional (1D) sulfides [Mn(en)2(H2O)][Mn(en)2MnGe3S9] (1) and [Mn(en)2]2Sn2S6 (2) (en = ethylenediamine) have been prepared under solvothermal conditions and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Metal–amino complexes play different roles in preparing these two compounds: In 1, [Mn(en)2]2+ cations decorate the chains constructed by ternary T2 [MnGe3S10]6− clusters through their non-terminal S atoms, and [Mn(en)2(H2O)]2+ cations act as templates. While in 2, [Mn(en)2]2+ cations and [Sn2S6]4− dimeric anions are bridged together in an alternative manner to form its chain-like structure.
