Reversible formation of regular pentagonal dodecahedral (H2O)20 in a 2D metal–organic framework

Abstract

The regular pentagonal (H2O)20 dodecahedra has been found in the cavity of 2D [Ag6(Pra2biim)3]. It consists of two two-coordinated, eight three-coordinated and ten four-coordinated oxygen atoms accompanied by 28 surface hydrogen bonds and 12 apical hydrogen bonds. The reversible formation of the (H2O)20 cluster has been reported for the first time.
