Neutral and ionic reaction mechanisms for the allylation of aldehydes by bipyridineN,N′-dioxides

Abstract

Experimental as well as theoretical calculations provide evidence that the allylation of aldehydes catalyzed by bipyridineN,N′-dioxides proceeds via two different reaction mechanisms depending on the solvent used.
