Mesogenic Ni(ii) and Cu(ii) complexes of barbituric acid derivatives—toward one-dimensional magnets

Abstract

Liquid crystalline Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes of barbituric acid derivatives are promising materials for pseudo-one-dimensional ferromagnets. The ferromagnetic state for Ni(II) complexes is observed at low temperature range. Spin interactions leading to ferromagnetism are encouraged by bridging the metal centre along the columns.
