Cd(II)-sulfonyldibenzoilate coordination polymers based on mono-, bi-, tri- and tetranuclear cores as nodes

Abstract

Five Cd(II)-sdba coordination polymers, [Cd(sdba)(py)2(H2O)]n·2n(py) (1), [Cd2(sdba)2(bpe)2]n (2), [Cd2(sdba)2(2,2′-bipy)2]n (3), [Cd3(sdba)2(Hsdba)2(2,2′-bipy)2]n (4) [Cd4(sdba)4(bpp)]n (5) (H2sdba = 4,4′-dicarboxybiphenyl sulfone; py = pyridine; 2,2′-bipy = 2,2′-bipydine; bpe = trans-1,2-bis-(4-pyridyl)ethylene; bpp = 1,3-(4-pyridyl)propane), were hydrothermally synthesized. X-Ray crystal structure analyses reveal that these polymers possess different new structural motifs derived from mono-, bi-, tri- and tetranuclear nodes through two-, four-, six- and eight-coordinated SBU. Compound 1 features a wave-like 1D chain. Compounds 3 and 4 show the 2D structures, while compounds 2 and 5 show the novel 3D architectures. The intense blue or violet luminescences from ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT) were observed for compounds 14.
