Enzyme-mediated sol–gel processing of alkoxysilanes

Abstract

Certain proteolytic enzymes are capable of mediating the processing of tri- and tetra-alkoxysilanes to form monolithic silicavia the sol–gel process, or silsesquioxane sol–gels under green, solvent-free conditions.
