The key methods for the synthesis of the acids HOF, HOCl, HOBr and HOI are considered. The results of investigations of the structures and properties of these acids are described. Possible participation of the HOHal acids in the destruction of stratospheric ozone is discussed. The bibliography includes 207 references.
