One-step synthesis and structure of a tricyclic trislactone with C3 symmetry

Abstract

The reaction of piruvic acid with PH3 in the presence of HCl leads to the self-assembly of chiral tricyclic trislactone 1, the structure of which is proved by spectroscopy and gas electron diffraction.
