Simulation of the growth and differentiation of stem cells on a heterogeneous scaffold
Abstract
We present Monte Carlo simulations illustrating that scaffolds with specially designed heterogeneities can be used as a tool for governing the growth and differentiation of stem cells. This tool is predicted to be efficient provided that the size of the heterogeneities exceeds (but not appreciably) the cellular size and the rate of cell diffusion is relatively fast compared to that of cell division.
