Photoisomerization and isomer-specific addition of water in hydroxystilbenes

Abstract

3-Hydroxystilbene undergoes efficient addition of water on photoirradiation in acetonitrilewater binary solvent mixtures; behavior which is markedly different from that of 2- and 4-hydroxystilbene under similar conditions.
